The law is an ass, as they say, but that won’t matter much when you run afoul of it. The court of public opinion is equally harsh and far more immediate. The consequences of getting caught cheating outside an existing relationship are apparent and easily imagined. The legal and social implications vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, and so it’s incumbent upon you to know what they are.

Both the legal and social implications become more serious the further away from western culture. Legally, in western culture, adultery may be a reason to sue for divorce, but divorce itself has become less significant socially, rendering the idea moot in most cases.

However, socially, adultery and its suspicion can still lead to the death or mutilation of adulterers or murder-suicide scenarios.

This lesson will not give you comprehensive knowledge but will provide you with some examples of what adultery law looks like, giving you an idea of how to find the rules where you live.

Where will this bite you on the ass? If you end up cheating in a jurisdiction you’re not familiar with, so just like driving, you’ll need to know the international rules of cheating before dipping your wick or filling the taco with a bit of strange.
